About

SIBE are science communicators based in School of Biological Sciences, in the University of Edinburgh. We aim to enhance engagement with biology and biotechnology through interactions with the scientific community, school students, teachers and the general public.

We facilitate a variety of public engagement projects involving activities such as delivering biotechnology workshops for school pupils, developing educational resources, organising public science events and mentoring researchers in communicating their research. Formed in 2002, we receive support from the Darwin Trust of Edinburgh. We lever further funding from a variety of sources for specific projects.

We seek to achieve our aims by working according to current educational recommendations and policies, maintaining knowledge of current educational techniques, collaborating with other public engagement practitioners, providing science communication training, producing activities with lasting impact, and relating activities to contemporary life.
